Motorhome parking, facilities and campsites in Morocco is pretty darn different to Europe. But once you understand the main concept of what exactly entails as a ‘Campsite’ in Morocco, it makes a lot more sense.
On Park4Night – which is your best friend for determining great places to park here – there are essentially three types of overnight Campsites in Morocco.
1. Paid Campsites in Morocco (Camping)
These are designated areas specifically for motorhomes and tents.
While standards vary wildly—from luxury resorts with swimming pools to dusty plots with “character”—these are officially ‘Campsites’ in Morocco.
They generally offer:
- Electricity (EHU): Usually 220V, though often at a lower amperage than in Europe.
- Fresh Water and Waste: Dedicated points for grey water and chemical toilet (black water) disposal.
- Security: Most are fenced and gated with 24-hour staff.
- Social Life: These are the best places to meet fellow “overlanders” and swap tips on road conditions or border crossings.
2. Guarded Parking (Parking Gardienné)
These are not exactly as above though are listed as a type of Campsite in Morocco. However, these are the secret weapon of Moroccan travel.
Scattered throughout every city and near every major monument are Guarded Parking lots. For a small fee (typically 20–100 MAD per night), a “Guardian” in a high-vis vest will watch over your vehicle.
- Facilities: Usually none, though some may have a basic public toilet nearby.
- The Vibe: It’s functional. You are often parking on tarmac or gravel right in the heart of a city like Marrakech or Casablanca.
- Security: Extremely high. The Guardians take their jobs seriously, often sleeping in small huts at the entrance.
Be friendly with your Guardian. Many campers aren’t. But a packet of biscuits or even just a ‘Good Morning’ (Salam) goes a long way and your Guardian will watch over your van with great care.
3. Wild Camping (Camping Sauvage)
While officially “tolerated” in rural areas, wild camping in Morocco comes with a caveat: if the police or Gendarmerie find you, they may kindly (but firmly) ask you to move to a guarded area for your own safety.
This has been known to happen in the small Moroccan surf towns when the paid campsites get a bit empty. The Gendarmerie may come down to the wild camping area (which is generally prime beach side parking) and do a bit of a clean out.
Not sure what sort of deals they have going on. But everything seems to go back to normal after a day or so.

The Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region is in the Northwest of Morocco.

1. Asilah: Camping Echrigui
Located just a 10-minute walk from the stunning white-and-blue medina of Asilah, this campsite is the perfect first stop after getting off the ferry.

The campsite had muddy grounds when we arrived in December and run-down facilities. But the location is great with a 10 minute walk to the Asilah Medina and right across the road from the beach.
It isn’t flash though you have everything you need.

The Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Region is in the Northwest of Morocco.

2. Rabat: Parking Rue Marassa
If you want to visit the capital, don’t look for a campsite; look for this Guarded Parking lot. It is situated a mere 100 meters from the Medina entrance.

- Vehicle Care: The Guardian and carpark workers offer a car wash and polish service.
- Accessibility: The lot is flat and paved, suitable for most motorhome sizes, though manoeuvring during peak city hours requires a bit of patience!
Rabat is a sophisticated capital, and this Guarded Parking lot is one of the most practical ways to see it.
We returned multiple times to this site because, while it is essentially a fenced city car park, the friendliness of the Guardian (and his dog) and the unbeatable location make it a standout choice for urban vanlife.
3. Mohammedia: Camping Ocean Bleu
Situated in Mansouria, just a short drive from the bustling energy of Casablanca and Rabat, Camping Ocean Bleu is widely considered one of the best-managed campsites in Morocco.
It remains a favourite for us for its beachside bliss atmosphere and the exceptional hospitality of the family who runs it.

This is one of our favourite campsites in Morocco. It is a very friendly family owned and run campsite.
You are directly on the beach. While the coastline here is more rugged and rocky than sandy, the sunset views over the Atlantic are spectacular.
There is a Carrefour Market is within walking distance for major grocery hauls, and the site is a great base for taking a taxi into Casablanca to visit the Hassan II Mosque.
Casablanca–Settat Region: Campsites in Morocco
Casablanca is the capital of the Casablanca-Settat Region in the northwest of the country.

4. Casablanca: Hassan II Mosque Parking
There are very few options in Casablanca, but parking right under the shadow of the world’s second-largest mosque is an experience in itself.
Located on an unnamed road directly adjacent to the iconic Hassan II Mosque, this is a basic, Guarded Parking asphalt lot that places you right at the feet of one of the world’s most magnificent religious structures.
Note though, it literally is parking on the street side outside.

We also parked many times at a fenced, Guarded Parking lot just near Morocco Mall. This was a great place to park with a motorhome in Casablanca. But it has since disappeared off Park4Night.

5. El Jadida: Beachfront Parking (Avenue Sete)
El Jadida is a UNESCO World Heritage treasure, and this parking spot puts you right in the middle of its Atlantic charm.
Located along Avenue Sète near the Ibis Hotel, it’s a simple, Guarded Parking beachfront lot that offers a front-row seat to local life on the Moroccan coast.

As the sun sets, the Corniche transforms into a vibrant social hub filled with families, street food vendors, and portable coffee carts.
You are just a short, scenic walk from the Cité Portugaise (the fortified old city). Don’t miss the famous Portuguese Cistern while you’re there!
Being right on the Corniche means easy access to local snacks. We highly recommend trying the escargot (snails) from the nearby stalls—it’s a quintessential El Jadida experience.
6. Oualidia: Laguna Park
Perched on the hillside with sweeping views over the famous Oualidia Lagoon, Laguna Park is a good choice for those looking for traditional type campsites in Morocco.
While it is considered one of the more expensive options by Moroccan standards, the elevated position and the availability of amenities make it a reliable choice for a reset day.

- The View: The campsite literally overlooks the large motorhome parking lot below, offering a much better breeze and a bird’s-eye view of the lagoon.
Being up on the hill means a bit of a steep walk down to the lagoon and the famous oyster shacks, but the tranquillity away from the main road is worth the effort.
Oualidia is the oyster capital of Morocco. If you like oysters – or even if you don’t – we recommend walking down to the water to buy (or check out) fresh oysters directly from the fishermen or enjoy a grilled fish at one of the lagoon-side restaurants.
7. Oualidia: Camping Car de Oualidia
If you don’t need the bells and whistles of Laguna Park, this is a large, dedicated motorhome area at the bottom of the hill.

You are steps away from the famous Oualidia Lagoon. This is the spot to stay if you want to wake up, walk across the road, and buy fresh oysters or grilled fish directly from the local boatmen.
Marrakesh–Tensift–Al Haouz Region: Campsites in Morocco

8. Marrakech: Parking Et Lavage La Koutoubia
To truly experience the ‘Red City’, you have to be in the centre. This guarded lot is located right next to the Koutoubia Mosque!

Such a handy location to visit the medina of Marrakech! You are less than a 5-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa, the world-famous square. You can easily pop back to your van for lunch or a nap before heading back out for the evening festivities.
It’s loud, it’s central, and it’s quintessentially Marrakech. If you value location over luxury, this is your spot.
- Tip: Navigating to this lot can be intense. We strongly recommend arriving before 10:00 AM or after 8:00 PM to avoid the peak Marrakech traffic and the swarm of motorbikes.
9. Souira Kedima: Souira Guedima Parking
If you are travelling south from Safi and struggling to find a secure spot in the city, Souira Kedima is a fantastic coastal alternative. This small village features an expansive corniche and a relaxed atmosphere, making it a perfect slow travel stop.
The parking area is set just back from the beach and offers a safe, affordable overnight stay.
Though to be honest, there isn’t anything here in this village apart from a small fish market – and peace and quiet.

- Dining & WiFi: The nearby restaurant Ranch Bleu (just a 300m walk) is a traveller favourite. It offers great pizza, clean restrooms, and reliable WiFi—perfect if you need to catch up on work or route planning.
You are mere steps from the waterfront. It’s a quiet, local village where you can watch the fishermen at the port or enjoy a peaceful walk along the corniche. Though there really isn’t anything else here other than the very small fish market.
However, because it’s less touristy than the major hubs (like, way less touristy), it’s a good place to stay for a few nights to recharge.
Gavin bought a Djellaba at the market (in preparation to ride the Mauritania Iron Ore Train) and we extended our stay to two nights to rest and chill out.
10. Ounagha: Camping Oliviers (Near Essaouira)
Since overnight motorhome parking in central Essaouira has become increasingly restricted, Camping des Oliviers in the nearby village of Ounagha has become the premier base camp for the region.
This family-run oasis is spotlessly clean, incredibly friendly, and offers a peaceful retreat just 15 km inland from Essaouira.

We found this an awesome option for a campsites in Morocco near Essaouira.
A shared ‘Grand Taxi’ or local bus to Essaouira costs approximately 15 MAD per person. It’s a quick 15–20 minute ride that drops you right near the Medina gates.
Ounagha is small but a charming, authentic Moroccan village. We recommend visiting the local Souk (market) if you happen to be there on a Thursday to stock up on fresh local produce.
11. Sidi Kaouki: Paradis Aicha
While the name “Paradise” might be a bit of a stretch when it comes to the facilities, the location and the price make it a legendary stop.
We came for one night and ended up staying for three!
- Tip: Eek! Check updated information this year as sadly this campsite in Morocco may have closed. There are some great wild spots nearby if you look.

The campsite is right in the heart of the village. There are several small cafes nearby serving Berber Omelettes and local mint tea, plus two mini-markets for your basic supplies.
Agadir–Ida Ou Tanane Region: Campsites in Morocco

12. Imsouane: Gratuit Parking Imsouane
This is one of the ultimate best and free Campsites in Morocco.
Imsouane is home to ‘The Bay’, one of the longest surf waves in the world, and this park-up is arguably the most famous spot in the Moroccan vanlife circuit.
- Tip: Even following the significant local redevelopments in early 2024, this spectacular cliffside parking area remains open and welcoming to motorhomes.

– Toilet Use: 5 MAD
– Hot Shower: 15 MAD - Motorhome Services: You can empty your chemical cassette at the public facility for 10–15 MAD. Fresh water is available via jerry can; if you have a smaller van, you can drive down to the tap, but larger rigs will need to carry water up.
- The Guardian: Look for the friendly warden in the high-vis vest. While there is no “official” fee, it is standard practice to give him a one-off tip (around 50 MAD if staying several days). He provides excellent security and will guide you to the best level spot.
Despite the demolition of some older buildings in the village, the spirit of Imsouane remains. The parking lot is still the primary hub for the international surf-van community.
You are parked directly above the surf. You can check the swell from your breakfast table and walk down to the water in less than five minutes.
We loved it so much we stayed for six nights on our first visit!
Guelmin–Oued Noun Region: Campsites in Morocco

13. Sidi Ifni: Camping Sidi Ifni
Sidi Ifni is a former Spanish enclave with a unique blue-and-white Art Deco aesthetic, and this campsite is the perfect base to soak it all in.
Located just past ‘Gran Canaria Camping’ it offers a friendly atmosphere right by the Atlantic shore.
This was another of our favourite Campsites in Morocco. We really enjoyed the relaxed vibes of Sidi Ifni.

You are a flat walk from the beach and a manageable 15-minute uphill stroll to the town centre. The climb is worth it for the views and the Spanish-influenced architecture and the huge Weekly Souk.
- Tip: Take a short drive (or a long beach walk) north to Legzira Beach to see the famous red stone arches. It’s one of the most photographed spots in all of Morocco.
Laayoune–Sakia–El Hamra (Western Sahara): Campsites in Morocco

14. Boujdour: Camping Sahara Line
The drive through the Western Sahara involves long stretches of desert road, making Camping Sahara Line a vital and welcoming oasis in Boujdour.
It serves as the perfect halfway mark between Laayoune and Dakhla.
While the entrance might look a bit cluttered with older vehicles, don’t let that deter you—inside, you’ll find one of the best-maintained (ha! Albeit only) stops on the southern route.

If you are heading to Dakhla, this is the last of the full-service campsites in Morocco with reliable hot showers for several hundred kilometres.
15. Dakhla: Las Vegas (Western Sahara)
Dakhla is a world-class destination for kitesurfing, but the ‘Las Vegas’ park-up is a unique and somewhat polarizing phenomenon in the Moroccan vanlife scene – and in our recommendations for Campsites in Morocco.
Located on the outskirts of the city, this is an informal, expansive desert parking area that has evolved into a semi-permanent settlement for long-term winter travellers.
But I’ve got to be honest – as far as Campsites in Morocco and ones we recommend; this spot in Dakhla is the one we would be the last to recommend.

- Sanitary: None. This is a completely off-grid location.
- Water: There is a water point available, but it comes with a major caveat: the water is heavily sulfuric and has a very strong, unpleasant odour. Most travellers avoid putting this in their fresh water tanks.
- Waste: There is no official infrastructure. Long-term residents have established an informal emptying point in the dunes, which is far from ideal for the environment. It is gross!
Why Stay?
We only recommend this spot as a safe, free place to sleep for a night before you tackle the long drive to the Mauritanian border.
You will see European motorhomes that have been here for months, some even building makeshift fences around their rigs. It is a very specific subculture that won’t appeal to everyone.
It is a wide-open space with plenty of room, but it lacks the charm and hospitality of the family-run sites further north.
We parked one night just to sleep without using any ‘facilities’ and can only recommend this campsite in Morocco as a safe place to park before crossing the border to Mauritania and beyond.
